It all started with my mother, Rosita. Growing up in West Africa, she taught myself and my sister’s good skin care habits such as cleansing, toning, and moisturizing; things most moms weren’t into. I watched my mom turn her botanical garden, and palm nut tree in our compound, into a resource for her skin care products and herbs she concocted. She was glamourous even with secateurs in hand, itching to prune and collect any herbs she could get her hands on. Trust me, the stories are hilarious. As a teenager, my mom vehemently told myself and my sister’s not to wear excessive makeup or foundation. She always said “less is more” and even though at that time, I was rebellious, I am glad I followed her advice. Twenty-four years later, I instinctively followed in my mother’s footsteps when I couldn’t figure out what ingredient in a skin care product caused a bad reaction that had me going to the emergency room. As soon as I got home, I realized that there were so many toxic ingredients in  that one jar, that I promised to educate myself on skin care ingredients and their long-term effects on our health.

Motivated by my passion for an organic lifestyle and my research findings, I resolved to create chemical and preservative-free skin care products made from pure organic ingredients that worked and were safe. I cleaned out my skin care “junkie” stash, called my mom for some herbal recipes, and started making my own skin care products from scratch. For the last three years, I hand-made skin care products for family and friends and they have been an instant hit. Despite the fact that I disliked chemistry in high school, little did I know that my hobby would become a obsession. Working with a group of aromatherapists, herbalists, and holistic formulators, we created Belinda Organics™, a line of skin care products free from all alcohols, mineral and hydrogenated oils, petrolatum, parabens, sulphates, PEGs, TEA, DEA, propylene glycol, phthalates, GMO, silicones and the other yucky stuff that do no darn good.
